:-)
Yes - the long-awaited meeting of our son was probably the scariest thing that has ever happened to him -- he wanted nothing to do with me, but did go to Charley... once, and then spent the rest of the time looking at the other families and hiding behind the orphanage directors!!! Poor baby!!! Of course everyone else's babies were fine, a little crying... but we weren't exactly sure how we were going to get him out of the building without being arrested for kidnapping. Ooops!!!
:-)
BUT ---- our guide ROCKS.... Wendy has earned her special place in heaven and has definitely earned her money this week -- she talked and talked and talked once we were in the van. She talked him off of the floor where he had cornered himself (after trying to open the door while we were moving through traffic) and got him sitting on the seat next to Emily.
Our first stop was to get the family photo for his adoption paperwork -- I thought, "THIS will be an interesting photo!" because usually it's the babies who freak out when they take that photo. But it was fine... then we braved a grocery store, where we earned a little more trust - he got to pick out some snacks. He likes chocolate and Pringles so far. :-)
Our guide left us after we got back to the hotel (*ACK*) and we went to the room, he wouldn't take off his coat, but he came with us to the Chinese restaurant and ate lunch thank God. but when he was done, he would try and walk around... we are going to have to be fast on our feet with him!
So now we've been in the room for a while, the kids are ripping through the snacks, and watching Diego and other videos, and he likes to mess with any and all buttons... I will be on guard all the time at home! They were coloring for a while, too, and it seemed to calm him a little. He has smiled at me, and was laughing at lunch when we were doing strange things with our chop sticks.
I REALLY wish I would have studied my Chinese!!! *ack*
But all will be well -- my goal today is to get some photos downloaded -- some NICE photos, not the scary ones from the civil affairs office this morning! ha ha!!
Adoption Day is tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ---
More later -- but we are fine and please send us all of your prayers you can spare!!!

OH Cynthia, I can't even imagine how hard that must of been for you. It is one thing with a baby, toddler and another with a six year old boy!
Bryson wanted to touch every button in China too, especially my laptop. He did at home at first too and now is a "normal" button pushing 4 year old!
Now he just constantly pushes my melt my heart button!
Wow..your first few hours sound exactly like our first few with Rita...traumatic BUT making progress. He sure is adorable!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad you are his mama. You will know just the right things to do to help him through this time. What a blessing your guide is! woo-hoo! That is amazing. Have her tell him everything. Make sure before you leave she gives him the blow by blow of what is happening and will be happening too (airplane, etc.).
((hugs!))
I know its hard right now, but this too will pass. He's just so scared right now. But at least he was prepared for you. And even though the wanted this its still very scary. But, of course, you know all of that. Sometimes its nice to have someone just confirm it. ;>)
